Usually when we embark on a new plan we immediately start looking for the best exercises to do. This is very common and I want to tell you what you need to be doing regardless of what your goal should be.

First, you have to do is to find your goal. That’s going to drive your program. Let me be clear, any good strength and conditioning program will include resistance training and cardiovascular fitness. Sometimes you have to put more emphasis on one than the other but it should include both.

The best exercise for you to do is the exercise you will do consistently if you don’t like it you won’t do it and that is totally normal. So make sure you are doing resistance and cardiovascular but make it fun

Here is step 1:

Funny enough, You have already completed step1!

You may not realize it yet but the first step has happened! The First step is always the hardest and that is making the decision to get moving in the right direction.

I’m confident you’ve made that first step because you’re here and you’re reading this. That means that you are, at least, thinking about your health. Making the decision to start thinking about your health seriously can be very tough for a lot of individuals.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in worrying about trying to be perfect that we sometimes forget to take joy in the process of getting better. Instagram, and social media in general, makes us believe that fitness models and celebrities have always been perfectly fit and healthy OR they got there overnight. That is seldom the case and the opposite is usually true.

One of my favorite quotes is: “it takes no special skill to be fit and healthy”, by Jim Wendler. This is a profound statement and something that I have found to be unequivocally true. You can be as fit and healthy as you want. The tough part is staying consistent when the progress is slow; however, that is when it is the most rewarding AND when it sticks aroung the longest.

You simply have to make the decision. You made the decision so now let’s get to work!!

We (yours truly included) over complicate EVERYTHING. Why do we do this to ourselves? I think that too often we believe things have to be overly complicated in order to actually have any success. I think we tell ourselves that it can’t be so easy because if it was I would already have it done. I think what we fail to understand is that in order to be successful at anything you have to be consistent and sometimes we’re not consistent because it’s not exciting, exhausting or cutting edge.

It shouldn’t be lost on anyone that some of the all-time great‘s did things that were completely basic. Take a look at Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant and look at how many jump shots they had to take (and miss) for years to be good at anything.

Now, think of your own life and anything that you succeeded add, did it come naturally or did you have to practice? When you were growing up those first few steps you took were hard and unsteady. It's true that we don’t start walking right from the get-go. In fact, we build that muscle, we practice, we fail and we do it again. We learn to talk, tie our shoes and even hold our bladder through the night. (Although some of us are better at it than others!!)

Why then, are we OK with failing and practicing over and over again to learn some things but when it comes to our health we’re not patient?

If you’re reading this I am issuing you a challenge right now to look at yourself in the mirror and dedicate six months of consistent work to see where you will be. I guarantee you that in that time you will be a completely different person. It doesn't have to be massive change, it just has to be change. Pick ONE thing and let's go!

It’s time to go, join me.
